What is a shadowban?

A shadowban is when X (formerly Twitter) quietly makes an account's posts harder for other people to find. The account is not suspended, but its posts can drop out of search and recommendations, and its replies can be hidden, so engagement falls without any notice.

This tool checks four things, Search Ban, Suggest Ban, Ghost Ban and reply deboosting, from an account that has no connection to yours, using real searches and reply threads. Each one is shown as BAN, Caution or OK.

"Shadowban" is not an official X term. It is a nickname for several effects, such as posts not appearing in search or replies being hard to see. They usually come from a mix of habits like heavy use of links or hashtags, posting in bursts, or repeating the same content, and they do not always mean a serious penalty. Read What is a shadowban on X? for the details.

How to use it

  1. Type the username you want to check (without the @) into the box above and press Check. You never need to log in or enter a password.
  2. After a few seconds you will see a result for each of the four checks, plus how each recent post is showing. Any public account can be checked.
  3. If something looks wrong, follow the suggested guide and review your posting habits. Check again after a few days to see whether anything has changed.

What the four checks mean

Search Ban
We search "from:username" in the Latest tab and check whether recent posts appear.
Suggest Ban
We check whether the account appears in the suggestions shown while someone types the username.
Ghost Ban
We check whether recent replies are visible in the reply thread of the post they answer.
Reply deboosting
We check whether replies are hidden below "Show more replies".

When something cannot be measured directly, for example because there are no recent replies, it is estimated from posting patterns and labeled "Estimate". Results describe what is visible from the outside and do not guarantee X's internal status, so combine them with a manual check.
